Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday announced that tomatoes in Delhi and NCR will now be sold at ₹70 per kg. Adding to her statement, she further informed that as prices of the staple has been soring from past few months, they have now procured the tomatoes from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

According to the information, the sale will be conducted by the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation (NCCFF) at a subsidised rate this weekend in Delhi & NCR. Giving the example of Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan, where the system has already been implemented few weeks earlier. NCCF and NAFED outlets operate mobile vans to conduct the sale, she said.

“NCCF is planning a mega-sale of tomatoes in Delhi-NCR at a subsidised rate of ₹70/kg this weekend and covering all nooks and corners of Delhi,” Nirmala Sitharaman said.

Apart from this, during her addressal in the Parliament on the no-confidence motion, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman defended the government’s policies and showcased India’s remarkable economic transformation, asserting that progress is achieved through actions rather than mere rhetoric.

Sitharaman further reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive growth, highlighting initiatives such as ‘Jan Dhan Yojana,’ ‘Digital India Mission,’ ‘Ayushman Bharat,’ and ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendra,’ all designed to benefit the common citizens of the nation.

Finance Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the government’s unwavering dedication to the principles of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, aur Sabka Prayas.’
