Over 40 boats gutted in fire at Andhra’s Visakhapatnam fishing harbour

The locals alleged that some unknown people could have been involved in the incident.

A massive fire broke out at the Visakhapatnam fishing harbour in Andhra Pradesh on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. 

According to the police officials, at least 40 fibre-mechanised boats were reduced to ashes. No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident.

Soon after getting to know about the incident, the locals alerted the firefighters, who promptly arrived at the scene to extinguish the fire.

As per preliminary investigations, the fire started with one boat and rapidly spread to others in the vicinity at the harbour.

Local fishermen are suspecting a foul play, alleging that unknown individuals may have intentionally set the boats on fire.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Visakhapatnam, Anand Reddy while speaking to media persons informed, "The fire broke out on a boat at Vishakhapatnam fishing harbour and then spread to nearly 35 fiber-mechanized boats at midnight. The police and fire teams responded immediately. The fire was successfully brought under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. An FIR has been filed and an investigation is underway."
