After the horrific triple train accident in Odisha’s Balasore, which resulted in the loss of 275 lives and has left over 1,000 people injured, many bodies are yet to be identified.

According to the official statement by the Divisional Railway Manager of the Eastern Central Railways Rinkesh Roy, out of 278 people who died in the mishap, 101 bodies are yet to be identified, whereas around 200 people are being treated in various hospitals in Odisha.

Apart from this, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has said that 55 bodies have been handed over to the families of the deceased.

Notably, the devastating collision of the triple-trains accident (two passenger trains and a freight train) in Odisha’s Balasore on June 2, has left an impact across India, which has left 278 people dead and caused injuries to over 1,000 people.

A halted goods train and the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express collided, resulting in numerous coaches derailing into the nearby track and the accident. The Howrah Express then derailed further when it slammed into the affected carriages at a high rate of speed on its way from Yesvantpur to Howrah.

CBI takes over triple-train accident probe

On Tuesday, the Balasore railway tragedy investigation in Odisha was officially handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Before starting to look into the accident, the investigation agency was gathering information and statements.

The development happened after the Odisha police filed a case for causing death by negligence in connection with the accident under several sections of the IPC and the Railway Act.
