According to the latest updates by Indian Railways, rail services have been resumed in the Balasore area that got affected due to the triple-train accident on Friday evening.

Following the terrible triple train disaster in Balasore, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Sunday that their objective is to make it possible for the families of missing victims to locate them as soon as possible.

The rehabilitation of the damaged track was on top priority of the railways ministry and both up and down line services were resumed after 51 hours of the accident that left 275 people dead and over 1,000 injured. Vaishnaw gave the goods trains the green light and prayed for their safe trip. The work began quickly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued the directives, the ministry claims.

The railways minister further added that the services have been resumed after testing both lines by the restoration team. Earlier, he also mentioned that the reason for the accident is the “change in electronic interlocking.”

The triple-train accident involved the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express and a goods train at the three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar station in the Balasore district.

Apart from this, the chief secretary of Odisha Pradeep Jena clarified that the death toll in the mishap has been revised from 288 to 275 as some of the dead bodies got counted twice.

Notably, over 1,000 workers were present for the restoration of the site tracks, the process also included Poclain machines, two-accident relief trains and 3-4 Railway and road cranes deployed for the purpose.

As confirmed by the officials, after the mishap, several Union Ministers met the injured persons at the Srirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The meeting was also held between doctors and ministers at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
