Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh was produced before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court yesterday (October 05) by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). During this, the Delhi court has said that AAP MP’s arrest in connection to a controversial liquor policy case was ‘not unwarranted or unreasonable.’

Notably, Sanjay Singh was arrested on Wednesday by the probe agency after being questioned for over 10 hours and was sent to 5-day ED’s custody till October 10.

Meanwhile, the AAP leader called it “false and baseless allegations, we are not scared, we will fight back.”

Delhi court on Sanjay Singh’s arrest

In the hearing, the Delhi court said that the AAP Rajya Sabha MP’s arrest was not unwarranted as the ED accused Sanjay Singh of being directly related to the receipt of the proceeds of crime amounting to Rs 2 crore in the Delhi liquor policy case.

According to the ED, Sanjay Singh received the money from accused-turned-approver Dinesh Arora.

Further, the court also observed that Dinesh Arora corroborated Singh’s involvement in the alleged scam and that there was nothing on record to show that Arora’s statements were ‘tainted.’

The court observed that the sustained and custodial interrogation of the AAP leader ‘appears to be necessary’ to trace the complete trail of the amount he received and also other activities relating to it.

The ‘veracity’ of the statements by Dinesh Arora and others against Sanjay Singh will be tested during the trial only, said the court, adding, “But for the purposes of investigation, such statements have to be believed and taken into consideration.”

Ready to die but won’t fear: AAP leader before his arrest

Before his arrest on Wednesday, Sanjay Singh released a video message to his party workers, saying, he was ‘ready to die but won’t fear.’

“I have been constantly speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gautam Adani and their corruption. I have even registered several complaints against Adani’s corruption to the ED. No action was taken against it. But today, ED suddenly raided my house. They found nothing, despite that, they are arresting me,” Singh added in the video.
