Following the derailment of multiple coaches of the Anand Vihar-Kamakhya North-East Express train yesterday, a special train carrying 1006 people departed from Raghunathpur station in Bihar’s Buxar on Thursday morning.

The North-East Express (12506) train’s coaches derailed near Raghunathpur station in the Danapur division of the East Central Railway on its way from Delhi’s Anand Vihar Terminus to Kamakhya near Guwahati in Assam, according to the chief public relations officer of Northeast Frontier Railway.

According to a statement released by the East Central Railway zone, two trains – Kashi Patna Jan Shatabdi Express (15125) and Patna Kashi Jan Shatabdi (15126) have been cancelled following the incident.

The incident happened on Wednesday night, when 21 cars of the express train derailed, leaving at least four people dead and almost 70 others hurt.

Meanwhile, the authorities are looking into the incident’s cause, East Central Railways (ECR) General Manager Tarun Prakash said ANI. Teams from the federal and state emergency response agencies have arrived at the spot of the event.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of the Union Railways, announced that the evacuation and rescue efforts had ended.

This morning, Ashwni Choubey, the Union’s State Minister for Railways, went to the location to look at the cleanup and rescue efforts. He claimed that attempts were being made to get the rails running again and that an investigation had been opened to find out what went wrong.

As per latest information from the ministry, the injured are getting treated at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 Lakh each to families of the people who died after 21 coaches of the North East Express train were derailed in Buxar last night.
