As Ganesh Chaturthi is around the corner, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has imposed a strict ban on the sale and manufacturing of idols that are made up of Plaster of Paris (POP). If the makers do not follow the rules, they might end up paying a hefty amount as a penalty.BBMP bans sale and production of POP idolsAmid putting a permanent stoppage on the production and selling of the idols made with POP, the BBMP chief Tushar Girinath conducted a meeting with the officials of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB). During the festival, the idols will be erected at various places in the city, so the BBMP is directed for hassle-free celebrations in the streets.According to the civic body, they will ensure that the festival happens in an environmentally friendly way and strict action will be taken against those who breach the guidelines.Arrangements are made for Ganesh ChaturthiThe BBMP also directed several other departments for the arrangements during the immersion of idols. For the household celebrations, mobile tanks will be made available for the small idols. However, the immersion of the large idols will take place at Sankey Lake, Halsuru Lake, Yediyur Lake etc.The civic body also said that special arrangements will be made at the following lakes for the smooth procession of idol immersion. The bursting of firecrackers in public is also strictly banned.
