As the Bihar government released one of the most controversial reports – ‘Bihar caste-based census’ yesterday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called for an all-party meeting on Tuesday to share the details of the survey and discuss the necessary steps to be taken in the future regarding it.

Nitish Kumar to hold all-party meeting over Bihar caste-based census

The chief minister has also urged the participation of all the nine parties in the state. He said that the state government will provide detailed information on the calculations behind the results and the economic conditions of the people surveyed.

Speaking to the news agency ANI on Monday, Nitish Kumar said, “After doing everything, the result came out. We have taken the financial condition of every family. Tomorrow, in the all-party meeting, we will keep everything in front of everyone. The government will take all the necessary steps after taking everyone’s suggestions in the meeting.”

Results out of Bihar caste-based census on Monday

On Monday, the Bihar government finally shared the results of its caste-based census, also known as Bihar Jaati Adharit Ganana. It revealed that the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) hold 63% of the state’s population.

Further, the census shows that Scheduled Castes (Scs) account for over 19% of the 13 crore population, while Scheduled Tribes (STs)make up 1.68%.

The upper castes, or ‘savarnas’, form 15.52% of the state’s population.
