After interrogating Sahil Gehlot accused of strangulating Nikki Yadav with the mobile phone cable and stuffing her body into a referigerator in his family owned eatery, the officials of Crime branch has disclosed that the duo were married from last three years at Arya Samaj Temple.

According to offical statement, during the interrogation Sahil disclosed that Nikki was repeatedly asking him not to marry another girl because both of them solemnised their marriage in year 2020 and were actually husband-wife, not live-in partners. He also told that Nikki was repeatedly objecting his impending marriage which was fixed by his family on February 10.

After getting fed-up with her repeated objections, Sahil planned to kill her with his family members and acquaintances on the day of his second marriage, police office said.

Delhi Police told that Crime Branch has attrested five people in the case including Sahil’s father Virender Singh to help him in the conspiracy. Apart from Sahil’s father, Ashish, Naveen, Amar and Lokesh are also arrested. Later, it was revealed that Naveen, cousin of Sahil who is a Delhi Police Constable was also part of this. The court has sent 5 accused on 2-day Police remand.

After Sahil was unable to persuade Nikki to allow for their marriage, he devised a plan to have her killed and enlisted the help of others. Therefore, Sahil Gehlot carried out the plan, killed the woman, and told the other co-accused people about it all on the same day. i.e. February 10, after which all of them proceeded with their weddings,” the officer continued.

After Sahil’s arrest on Tuesday, he was presented before a court and sent on 5-day Police remand. The incident was revealed four days later, on February 14, when Gehlot confessed to the crime and led police to the fridge in his restaurant where he had been hiding the body.

Another similar case before Nikki’s Murder

This is the second time a young woman in Delhi has been murdered, allegedly by her live-in partner. Shraddha Walkar was murdered last year by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawalla, who chopped her body into pieces and stored them in a fridge before disposing of them across the city. Ten days prior to the crime, he had told the police that he intended to kill Shraddha, but he changed his mind after an emotional exchange with her.

He allegedly stored it for nearly three weeks in a 300-litre refrigerator at his Mehrauli, south Delhi, home before disposing of it a few days after midnight. He was taken into custody on November 12 and is now being held in Tihar Jail.
