In view of the upcoming 18th G20 meet in New Delhi from September 8-10, the Delhi government has issued a gazette notification, including a slew of restrictions to ensure a smooth flow of traffic in the capital.This notification provides limitations on traffic regulations, in and around New Delhi. The flow of traffic will remain unaffected outside the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area except on the National Highway 48 (NH-48), according to the Delhi Traffic Police.Moreover, the Police have also requested Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to start metro services early in the national capital on the days of the Summit.Delhi govt issues notification on traffic restrictions to be imposed during G20 SummitRead @ANI Story | https://t.co/AvKrsljgyX#DelhiTraffic #G20Summit #Traffic pic.twitter.com/tkKu2KkgfQ— ANI Digital (@ani_digital) September 6, 2023Details of traffic restrictionsAccording to the notification issued on Monday, vehicles such as goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, interstate buses, and local city buses will not be allowed to operate on Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road, and inside Pragati Maidan Tunnel from midnight on September 7 until 11:59 PM on September 10.However, vehicles carrying essential commodities such as milk, vegetables, fruits, medical supplies, etc., carrying valid “no-entry permissions” will be allowed to enter Delhi, it added.The entire New Delhi district will be put under “Controlled Zone-I” from 5 AM on September 8 until 11:59 PM on September 10 whereas the area inside Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) will be considered a “Regulated Zone” during the said period.Only authorised personalities traveling to Airport, Old Delhi, and New Delhi Railway Stations, as well as other authorized vehicles, will be allowed to use the road network in the New Delhi District during the 72 hours of G20.Three-wheeled shared taxis will also not be permitted to enter or operate within the New Delhi district from 5 a.m. on September 9 and until 11:59 p.m. on September 10.Early metro service in Delhi Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Aroura has sent a letter to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), requesting them to start the metro services earlier than usual during the time of G20 Summit, to help police personnel involved in security arrangements commute better during the G20 summitAs per media reports, he has asked the Managing Director, Vikas Kumar of DMRC to start metro services from 4: 00 a.m. instead of the usual time on September 8,9 and 10.“In view of the traffic restrictions in the venue-affected areas, primarily NDMC and South West District areas being put in place, the police and other support staff will be greatly facilitated if the Metro Services on 08th, 09th, and 10th can begin from about 0400 hrs. this will enable hassle-free travel of staff and timely reporting at the two prime venues i.e. IECC/ITPO and Rajghat,” the letter read.G20 Summit: Delhi Police chief seeks early metro service to aid security personnel on dutyRead @ANI Story | https://t.co/b4jNL8FwiG#G20Summit #DelhiMetro #DelhiPolice pic.twitter.com/UVzfbYubXW— ANI Digital (@ani_digital) September 5, 2023Moreover, DMRC is also issuing Tourist Special cards for the guests traveling for G20 at special counters in 36 metro stations.
