Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in Rajasthan’s Sikar for his one-day visit to the state, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter to accuse the Prime Minister’s Office of removing his pre-scheduled speech at an event.

Congress leader Gehlot posted a message on his official Twitter handle, where he said that he had to resort to welcoming the Prime Minister through social media because his speech was allegedly removed by the PMO.

“Today you are visiting Rajasthan. Your office PMO has removed my pre-scheduled 3-minute address from the program, so I will not be able to welcome you through speech, so I heartily welcome you to Rajasthan through this tweet,” Gehlot wrote.

In the detailed post, CM Gehlot also wrote a comprehensive list of ‘demands’, which we would have allegedly said during his ‘cancelled’ speech at the event in the presence of the Prime Minister.

He wrote, “Through this tweet, I am putting forward the demands I would have made through my speech in this program. I hope that during this 7th visit being done [by the PM] in 6 months, you will complete these…”

Ashok Gehlot’s office said CM can’t join event, says PMO

The Prime Minister’s Office replied to CM Gehlot’s post, saying that it was the Chief Minister’s Office who cancelled the pre-scheduled address, instead of the PMO.

“In accordance with protocol, you [CM Gehlot] have been duly invited and your speech was also slotted. But, your office said you will not be able to join. During PM Narendra Modi’s previous visits as well you have always been invited and you have also graced those programmes with your presence. You are most welcome to join today’s programme. Your name is very much there on the plaque of the development works as well. Unless you have any physical discomfort owing to your recent injury, your presence will be deeply valued,” the tweet read.

Ahead of what would be the Prime Minister’s seventh visit to the poll-bound Rajasthan in six months, the war of words between the Congress government and the BJP has intensified.

BJP MLAs have criticised CM Gehlot’s move to sack former Minister Rajendra Gudha for raising the issue of crimes against women in Rajasthan, while the Chief Minister has taken offence at PM Modi’s reference to the state in a speech about the recent sexual violence in Manipur.
