A case has been registered by the Navi Mumbai Police against a man for allegedly selling fake insurance policies of vehicles to an automobile parts shop owner, according to the police.

The case has been filed following the 2018 incident, where the victim, who ran an automobile part shop in Mumbai’s Kalamboli area, made a payment of Rs 46,370 to the accused for getting insurance cover for his seven cars, the Navi Mumbai police said.

How the fraud came to light?

Briefing about the case, APMC police station’s sub-inspector Arun Bilare said that the fraud came to light when an accident claim was filed for one of the victim’s vehicles. During the verification process, it was found that the insurance cover issued by the accused turned out to be fake.

Later, the victim learned all his vehicles’ policies issued to him were fake, the sub-inspector said.
