A renowned Madhya Pradesh woman wrestler, Rani Rana has filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws for dowry harassment at Gwalior’s Murar police station. Further, the wrestler has alleged in a FIR (First Investigation Report) registered against her in-laws, that they also tried to restrict her from engaging in sports.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Rishikesh Meena, wrestler Rani Rana has submitted a written complaint at Murar police station, citing harassment by her husband and in-laws, especially her mother-in-law. She also claimed that the accused were allegedly demanding dowry from her, the official said.

Soon the police received a complaint, they got the couple into counselling in an attempt at reconciliation. However, it did not work out, said the SP.

The Murar police have lodged an FIR against the accused following the wrestler’s complaint against them. Further probe is underway into this matter.

Presently, the woman wrestler is staying at her parent’s house in the Murar area of MP’s Gwalior district. Rani Rana has also served as the brand ambassador for the central government’s Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ initiative in the district. Her wrestling achievements have brought glory to the Gwalior Chambal region, where she clinched gold medals for Madhya Pradesh in several national championships.
