The 108-feet tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya, ‘Statue of Oneness’, inaugurated by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday in Omkareshwar.

The statue of Adi Shankaracharya is based on Mandhata mountain in Omkareshwar. According to a statement by Khandwa Collector Anoop Kumar Singh said that the awe-inspiring multi-metal sculpture stood on a 54-foot-high pedestal and had a height of 108-feet. As per sources, the project has been estimated at ₹2,141.85 crore for the statue of Adi Shankaracharya along with a museum in Omkareshwar.

The rituals during the occasion of the inauguration of the statue were performed by CM Chauhan and his wife Sadhna Singh Chouhan. He also offered prayer at the site on the occasion.

While speaking to ANI, Chouhan said, “‘Statue of Oneness’ will give the message of peace to the world.”

“Shankaracharya Maharaj got such a Guru in Omkareshwar. The tradition of knowledge should not end from there and the coming generations should also continue to get the knowledge. Therefore, not only is the divine statue being installed there but we are also going to build Ekatmadham there. Its foundation stone will be laid,” the CM said.

“It is my own belief that in the times to come, our Ekatmadham (idea of Advaita) will save the world, hence we are making this project there,” he added.

It is to be noted here that Omkareshwar is among one of the famous 12 jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Adi Shankaracharya was moved to Omkareshwar after becoming monk at very young age. His birthplace was Kerala but he got knowledge in Omkareshwar.
