A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s son is among four accused of gang-raping a woman and sexually assaulting her minor sister in Madhya Pradesh‘s Datia district. The relative of the victims, and locals surrounded the police station demanding strict actions against the accused, after which two have been arrested. The area is the home turf of MP Home Minister Narottam Mishram, who represents the Datia Assembly constituency.

BJP on this gang-rape incident 

On Sunday, the BJP’s Datia district unit head said that proper action will be taken if the gang-rape survivor in her police statement names the son of a local party functionary as being involved in the crime.

The police said that one of the victims tried to kill herself by hanging. Then, she was taken to a hospital immediately where she is under treatment.

The four accused are residents of the Unnao police station area.

Taking notes from the depressing incident, Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma said that the survivors and the accused are students, and the police are investigating the matter.

Case filed against the accused

All accused have been charged under relevant of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the SP said.

“The complainant said she and her elder sister were abducted by four persons. The accused took them to a house, where they raped her elder sister,” Sharma said.

Moreover, a complaint was also filed by the woman’s younger sister.

One of the victims attempted suicide

After the distressing incident, the victim and her younger sister returned home, where the victim tried to commit suicide, he said.

Later, the woman was admitted to a hospital in Jhansi in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, the official said. As per the First Information Report (FIR), the accused also sexually abused the complainant, he said.

Reward money set on the accused

Further, the police have announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the accused who are on the run.

Meanwhile, BJP’s district president Surendra Budholia said the incident was unfortunate, and the police were yet to record the victim’s statement.

If the victim takes the name of the BJP office-bearer’s son in her statement to the police, then the party will serve a notice to him (local functionary). The party will then take further action, the party chief added.
