The government of Mizoram has set up security protection for Meiteis in the states capital Aizawl in response to a public appeal by former Mizoram militants for community members to leave the country. The Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA) said in a statement released from Aizawl on Friday that Meiteis should leave Mizoram for their “own safety” since there is “anger among Mizo youth” about the incidence of two women being displayed naked in the adjacent ethnically divided state. The association said that the sentiments of the people in Mizoram have been deeply hurt after the violence meted out to the Zo-ethnic community in Mizoram, adding that if violence happens to Meiteis in Mizoram, they shall bear the responsibility.Sources claim that the Mizoram government has already taken steps to ensure that no Meitei people are harmed in the state.“The situation in Mizoram has become tense, and it is no longer safe for Meitei people from Manipur to live in Mizoram in the wake of barbaric and heinous acts committed by miscreants in Manipur…The PAMRA appeals to all Meitei people in Mizoram to leave for their home state as a safety measure,” the statement read. PAMRA is a non-political organisation of former Mizo National Front (MNF) militants for the implementation of the Mizo Peace Accord. It is to be noted here that Manipur and Centre government are again in the round of discussions after the horrific video of women harassment got surfaced on social media. After which five arrests have been made in connection with the case so far.Notably, more than 150 people have lost their lives in the ethnic violence that erupted in Manipur on May 3 and displaced thousands of people.
