A massive fire broke on the first floor of the PGI’s Nehru Hospital in Chandigarh in the wee hours of Tuesday, said a senior official. However, now the situation is under control as the fire was doused and all patients are safe, he said.

Fire breaks out at PGI’s Nehru Hospital in Chandigarh

Reportedly, the fire initially broke out in the hospital’s computer room and subsequently engulfed the entire floor.

Speaking to the media, the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Dr Vivek Lal said, “The fire broke out in the computer room which spread further. The administration of the hospital immediately responded and evacuated all the patients safely.”

No casualty reported

“Not a single patient has lost his/ her life… Chandigarh administration immediately swung into action, fire tenders reached the spot and the fire was doused,” he said.

The timely response and coordinated efforts of the hospital staff and local authorities played a crucial role in averting a potential disaster, ensuring the safety and well-being of all patients in the PGI’s Nehru Hospital.

Upon reaching the spot of the incident, Civil Defense Department, Sanjeev Kohli said, “We received info that a fire broke out on the first floor of the Nehru Hospital. We immediately reached the spot and the situation is now under control… The reason behind the fire is yet not clear… All the people inside the hospital have been evacuated…”

“The situation is under control. We have started the restoration process,” he added.
