A woman was shot dead after the schools resumed classes in the violence-hit state of Manipur. According to the police officials, the incident has been reported near a school in Imphal West district.

The officials have confirmed that the incident occurred outside Satya Niketan School on Thursday morning, and the body has been sent for postmortem.

It is to be noted here that schools in the state got re-opened after two months because of ongoing clashes among the different communities.

The chief minister of Manipur N Biren Singh issued a notification on Monday, and issued the order for the re-opening of the schools from July 5 for up to Class 8, except 96 schools in the worst-affected areas.

Apart from this, CM also added that the students from Classes 9 to 12 can return once the construction of prefabricated houses is completed and displaced people taking shelters at different relief camps are relocated.

Notably, the northeastern state has been witnessing clashes between two communities, Kuki and Meitei for more than two months now. Reportedly, the clashes have claimed more than 122 lives, so far and left thousands of people displaced.
