Manipur police in the development in viral video case of two women who were paraded and assaulted have identified 14 people from the video clip and have initiated the action to arrest them.
It is to be noted here that six arrests have already been made in the viral video incident that took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. Another similar video in the case surfaced on social media on July 19.
One of the women seen in the video was the wife of an ex-army man, who served as a subedar and fought for the country in the Kargil War. the complaint for the same got registered almost a month back at Saikul police station in Kangpokpi district.
Soon after the horrific video got viral, it was opposed by people of the country and has been a political issue since then.
More than 160 people have lost their lives in the ethnic violence that broke out in Manipur, leaving thousands of people displaced.
The Manipur police after receiving the complaint for spreading false news registered a FIR against the culprits on Monday. In a string of Tweets, the Manipur police mentioned, “On 23.07.2023, Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS), Manipur received a report from a functionary of a political party that a picture of him and his son collaged with a screenshot of the viral video of two women paraded, along with a caption that they were directly involved in the crime was uploaded in various social media platform. A case is taken up at CCPS for spreading false news with intent to cause injury, damage to his reputation, and create a serious breach of law and order. Attempt is made to identify and arrest the culprits.”
