On Thursday night, criminals set fire to the bungalow of Union Minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh in Imphals Kongba as violence continues in the northeastern state of Manipur. The incident happened when the minister was in Kerela.The union minister said, “It is extremely sad to see what happened last night. I was told that more than 50 miscreants attacked my home at around 10 pm. Damage has been done to the ground floor and the first floor of my residence. Neither me nor anybody from my family was present during that time. Thankfully, nobody got injured.”Singh, who belongs to the Meiti community, continues to persist in appealing to all parties to stay away from violence and allow for the restoration of peace to the state.Talking to ANI, Singh said, “An eye for an eye will turn everyone blind. Any cause is not helped by violence. Those who participate in this violence are doing the country a great disservice. Additionally, it shows that they are the enemy of humanity.”Before this, on June 14, nine persons died and more than ten others were injured in Imphal East. Meanwhile, the state government yesterday extended the ban on internet use in the state till June 20.The official residence of Manipur minister Nemcha Kipgen in Imphal West was attempted to be set on fire on Wednesday by miscreants. His house has some burn damage. In the state of Manipur, there have been restrictions for the past month and a half, including a ban on the internet.Noteworthy, is that Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid a four-day visit to the northeastern state on May 29. During that time, he met with the chief executive, N Biren Singh, leaders of all the political parties, members of civil society, womens groups, tribal organisations, and security personnel. Shah also announced that a state peace commission would be established. Days after the Home Ministers declaration, the committee was established.
