Manipur High Court on Thursday has directed status quo ante (the previously existing state of affairs) to be maintained at the proposed site where a mass burial of Kuki-Zo community members has to take place. The Court further has directed the Central, State government and aggrieved parties to make an effort for an amicable settlement to the matter.

It is to be noted here that a delayed mass burial of 35 odd victims of Manipur violence since May 3 has been organised in the village of Churachandpur district on Thursday, due to which the administration has put all the efforts to ensure that there is no-flare up of emotions.

The tribal organisation, Indigenous Tribal Leader Forum (ITLF) insisted that 35 victims whose remains were kept so far in the morgue of district hospital, would be honoured as martyrs at the Peace ground on Tuibuong before burial.

The tribal organisation conveyed, “All communities are requested to respect the last rites being performed for the dead. If anyone or any group tries to disrupt the event, they will be responsible for the consequences.”

Apart from this, the organisation also informed that over 120 bodies of the victims are at morgues of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences of Imphal, and they have requested the district administration to handover the bodies to them for burial.
