Manipur: Fresh tensions emerge in Imphal after two teenagers go missing

Student community came out on the streets to demand swift action to rescue missing teens

Fresh tensions emerged in Imphal and its adjoining areas on Monday are two teenage boys went missing from the West Imphal district in Manipur.

The missing teenagers have been identified as 16-year-old Maibam Avinash and 19-year-old Ningthoujam Anthony. They had gone missing after going to attend a function near the Sekmai area in Imphal West district on a two-wheeler on Sunday morning, the locals said.

According to the locals, the two boys are suspected to be abducted by unidentified men. A case has also been registered by the Lamshang police. Investigation to find the missing teenagers has also begun.

As of now, the police have found the phones of the two kidnapped, wrapped in a black polythene packet near an oil pump in Senapati district.

 

Imphal student protest 

 

Higher secondary students of 3 prominent schools in Imphal took to the streets and conducted a rally demanding swift action to rescue the teens at Keisampat junction in the centre of the capital, as per media reports.

Violence also erupted on the road as many people came out on the streets and burnt tires and also put boulders in the middle of the road, disrupting traffic as a mark of protest.
