As per reports, a jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) has sustained fatal injuries. While two other Assam Rifles personnel were injured in the firing that occurred in Manipur‘s Serou.

Reportedly, one of the security personnel was killed in action during an encounter with a group of insurgents in violence-hit Manipur on the intervening night of June 5-6. Officials have confirmed that the injured Assam Rifle personnel have been air evacuated to Mantripukhri in Imphal.

“Extensive area domination operations by Assam Rifles, BSF and Police undertook in areas of Sugnu/Serou in Manipur. Intermittent firing between Security Forces and a group of insurgents took place throughout the night of June 5-6, Security Forces effectively retaliated to the fire,” the Spear Corps added.

The incident occurred when the combined operation was going on by Assam Rifles, BSF and the Manipur police in the Sugnu-Serou area, following the recent clashes in North-eastern states.

The BSF personnel Ranjit Yadav who died while on duty was posted at the Serou Practical High School in the Sugnu area of Manipur’s Kakching district. Notably, Yadav is the second person who got killed in the clashes that got started last month in Manipur.

According to the army officials, the gunfight went on throughout the night between security personnel and insurgents. The search operation is still underway. The security personnel have so far recovered over 40 weapons, mortars, ammunition and other warlike stores.

The operation in the area by the security forces was initiated followed after over 100 houses were set on fire in Serou village of Manipur’s Kakching district on Sunday. The House of Congress MLA Ranjit Singh in Serou was also valise by the mob, adding that the legislator and his family escaped unhurt.

Notably, the ethnic violence that got engulfed in several parts of the state has taken 98 live so far and has left over 310 people injured. Apart from this over 4,000 cases of arsons have been reported and over 36,000 people in the state have been displaced.
