A man attacked and killed his friend in Punjab‘s Dera Bassi on Thursday night, who fled the scene after dumping the victim’s body in a backyard as per police reports.

The victim has been identified as Kajal Panday (33) while the accused’s name is Kuldeep Negi, who is currently on the run. He killed his female friend to death with knives and screwdrivers at his house In Saraswati Vihar Colony in Dera Bassi.

The incident was reported to the police by Kuldeep’s roommate, Naresh Thakur, who works as a General Manager in a hotel. According to Police, Thakur came home from work and saw blood stains on Kuldeep’s shirt.

This alerted Thakur and he started asking questions to Kuldeep who then confessed to killing his friend Kajal following an argument and dumping her body in their backyard.

After hearing his confession Thakur immediately called the police which made the accused flee from there. Following Thakur’s call the police responded to the scene and upon reaching the crime place they recovered knives and screwdrivers used in the crime from the house.

Police shares details

Sharing the details of the incident, ASI Kewal Singh of Dera Bassi police station said Thakur revealed that when he returned from work around 10.30 pm on Thursday, he saw blood stains on his roommate Kuldeep Negi’s shirt.

The police have also booked Negi, a native of Himachal, under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.

According to Police investigations, the victim is a mother of two who lived in a rented accommodation in Baltana, Zirakpur, and worked as a conductor for a private bus operator. Her body has also been moved for autopsy.

Moreover, the police are now trying to contact Panday’s family and inform them about the death of their relative.
