A woman in Maharashtra's Raigad district was set on fire by her 26-year-old son after he quarrelled with her on the issue of preparing a meal, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Tuesday evening at Navkhar village near Revdanda, an official said.

The victim identified as Changuna Namdeo Khot suffered serious burn injuries all over the body and later succumbed to death during treatment this morning at a state-run hospital in Alibag, he added.

According to the police official, her son beat her up after they fought over the preparation and serving of meals to him. The fight escalated to such an extent that he allegedly dragged her to an open space in front of the house, collected dry wood and set her on fire, the police official said.

The officials of Ravdanda Police Station immediately rushed to the spot after getting information on the incident and took the injured woman to the hospital, he said.

A police team arrested Jayesh from the nearby forest. Further probe is on.
