Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, urged all political parties in the nation on Wednesday to work together to defeat the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections next year and restore democracy to India. Mamata Banerjee, who is the leader of the Trinamool Congress, started a two-day sit-in day to protest the BJP-led Union government’s alleged treatment of the state with discrimination. She declared that the 2024 parliamentary elections would be a battle between the country’s inhabitants and the BJP, and she urged people of all faiths to work together to defeat the saffron party and protect the nations’ underprivileged.

Banerjee compared the BJP to “Dushasana” and “Duryodhana,” the two antagonists from the Mahabharata epic while speaking to a crowd gathered at the protest location opposite the statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar on Red Road. “I urge all Indian political parties to band together and overthrow the Dushasana BJP administration. To protect both the Indian democracy and the country’s average citizen, the Duryodhana BJP should be ousted from office “stated Banerjee.

Banerjee began the demonstration by claiming that the federal government had stopped giving the state money for the MGNREGA and other programmes. “Every person in this nation is a leader in the struggle against the BJP. This will be a one-on-one battle,” she declared.

According to Banerjee, the majority of the BJP’s allies have turned against the party, hence the party will lose the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. “The BJP’s prime has passed. They had 17 allies at the time they rose to power. They are now all alone because 16 have left them. What will they do on their own? Only in UP and MP will they receive votes,” according to the chief minister. In Uttar Pradesh, the TMC leader added, her party will support the Samajwadi Party.

Anubrata Mondal, the president of TMC’s Birbhum, was reportedly arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with cattle smuggling case and was transferred to the national capital.

Reportedly, Trinamool Congress also joined the Congress-led opposition strategy of wearing black clothes to protest against the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi.

Banerjee reacted angrily to the BJP’s criticism of her decision to participate in a protest as the chief minister of a state, saying that, if necessary, she would travel to Delhi and hold a sit-in outside the prime minister’s house.

“People have been enquiring as to whether I am protesting on behalf of the Trinamool Congress or the state government. I shall explain that I am protesting on behalf of my party and not the state administration,” she declared.

Banerjee also claimed that those who got jobs through chits during the Left Front regime are demanding a hike in dearness allowance. “A copy of the Constitution is stored here, as you can see. We must therefore keep in mind that the copy is held here by.” Banerjee issued a warning, saying that any form of racial agitation on Thursday in the name of celebrating “Ram Navami” will not be accepted.

“The BJP leaders have stated that they will march in the Ram Navami processions armed. I’m not going to stop them. But if there is an attempt to stir up trouble in the name of the Ram Navami procession, the law would take its course,” she said.

Today, the sit-in will last until 7 pm, however, Mamata Banerjee will spend the full night at the location. Strict security measures have been put in place both within and outside the sit-in area. A temporary office was set up at the demonstration site because she won’t be going to the state secretariat during all this.
