West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a hike of Rs 40,000 per month in the salaries of MLAs on Thursday. The hike will be applicable to cabinet ministers, ministers of states and legislators.

Apart from the announcement in the Assembly, she said that there will be no revision in the salary of the chief minister. “The salary of MLAs in the West Bengal Assembly is very low compared to that of other states. So it has been decided that their salaries will be hiked by Rs 40,000 per month,” she said.

The legislators will now get a monthly salary of Rs 50,000, against the existing amount of Rs 10,000, while the ministers will get a monthly salary of Rs 50,900, against the existing amount of Rs 10,900. For cabinet ministers, the monthly salaries have been increased from Rs 11,000 to Rs 51,000.

As per the reports, the actual monthly payment of the legislators, including salaries, allowances and perks, will now increase to Rs 1.21 lakh from Rs 81, 000. Similarly, the payment received by the ministers will be increased from Rs 1.1 lakh to Rs 81,000 a month. In addition to their monthly salaries, legislators, ministers of state, and cabinet members are also entitled to additional perks and benefits.

However, no official word on the breakup of actual saleries of the MLAs has been given by authorities.
