A 28-year-old woman Naxalite involved in many encounters, arson, and murder including a major gun battle in Chhattisgarh in 2017 that killed 12 jawans and carrying a cash reward of Rs 11 lakh surrendered before Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli Police, an official statement said on Saturday.

A press release from the Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) said that senior Naxal leaders had asked operatives like Rajani, alias Kalawati Samayya Veladi to collect money for the “movement” but used it for themselves.

“A Naxalite named Rajani alias Kalawati Samayya Veladi carrying a cash reward of Rs 11 lakh surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Gadchiroli. After the surrender, she will receive Rs 4.50 lakh declared by the Central and Maharashtra governments for rehabilitation,” an official statement said.

The press release clarified, “Women are discriminated against by senior Maoists. Married ‘dalam’ members could not live an independent married life”.

Furthermore, the press release added that Rajani, alias Kalawati Samayya Veladi will receive Rs 4.5 lakh under the rehabilitation policy, and all the necessary assistance would be provided to those willing to surrender and join the mainstream.
