Continuous heavy rainfall in Maharashtra flooded the Rayasani police station in the Raigad district on Wednesday, police officials said.

Parts of Maharashtra, including the districts of Ratnagiri and Raigad, have faced floods due to heavy showers in the state.

The Rayasani police station has faced similar perils, with footage showing that the entire police premise, including all the rooms, was flooded with water. The police personnel have had to plod through knee-deep water to report to duty.

‘Situation under control’: SP on flooded Maharashtra police station

According to Raigad Superintendant of Police (SP), Somnath Gharge, the Rayasani police station has been overwhelmed due to the heavy rainfall that has battered the district.

SP Gharge added that the heavy rainfall has resulted in a river bank overflowing, which has flooded a nearby village. The village residents had to be evacuated by the police despite the police station being submerged as well.

“Rasayani police station premises has been inundated. Apta village on the river bank has been inundated and people have been shifted to safer places. Situation [is] under control,” SP Gharge told news agency ANI.

As a result of the heavy rainfalls in the Raigad district, District Collector Yogesh Mhase announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the district, with the Met Department predicting moderate to intense rainfall in several areas of Maharashtra.
