In the ongoing search operations, the rescue teams on Friday recovered 6 more bodies from the site of a landslide which occurred on Wednesday at Irshalwadi village Raigad district of Maharashtra. After this, the death toll in the incident rises to 22 while 86 people are yet to be traced.

The rescue operation team said that out of the total deceased, nine members of a family perished in the disaster which struck on Wednesday night. The search operation was halted at 6 pm following the heavy rains, according to the National Disaster Response Force and other government agencies.

Relief material sent to Irshalwadi

Taking it to Twitter, Maharashtra CMO said, “Medical teams, ambulances and necessary medical facilities and other materials were immediately made available at the base of Irshal Fort. Containers with necessary facilities and other basic facilities have been made available for the temporary rehabilitation of the rescued citizens. The necessary materials for search and rescue operations have been immediately made available at the base camp. Coordinating officers have been appointed for this. 60 containers have been ordered for temporary accommodation of the accident victims. These citizens will be permanently rehabilitated through CIDCO.”

Irsalwadi not in potential fissure-prone places

Adding to this, it also said that Irshalwadi was not included in the list of potential fissure-prone places as per Geological Survey of India (GSI) report. “According to local information, total 48 families live in the said tribal wadi and the population is 228. About 17 to 18 houses have collapsed. 98 persons have been rescued safely in the rescue operation. Tracing of remaining 109 persons out of 228 is underway. Chief Minister @mieknathshinde clarified that Irshalwadi is not included in the list of potential fissure-prone places as per Geological Survey of India (GSI) report,” it said.
