Police and revenue officials have taken action against the jailed ex-MLA Mafia Mukhtar Ansari and his close associates in the Yusufpur market of Muhammadabad. On Sunday, they attached and sealed 18 shops owned by Ansari’s cousin Mansoor Alam under the Gangster Act, with an estimated value of Rs 26 lakh 18 thousand. This move has created a stir in the Yusufpur market, with relatives and friends of the mafia expressing their panic and concern.
Mohammadabad, in-charge of Inspector Ghananand Tripathi, had submitted a report to the Superintendent of Police on February 21, stating that Mukhtar Ansari had amassed property by forming a gang and engaging in criminal and anti-social activities. In the division of ancestral property, Ansari had given a plot of Yusufpur Bazar to his cousin Mansoor Ansari. Mansoor had constructed 18 shops on the same plot for commercial purposes.
After receiving the report, SP Omveer Singh recommended action against Ansari and his associates on March 6. On Sunday, the police and revenue team led by SP Rural Balwant Chowdhary, Muhammadabad SDM Dr Harshita Tiwari, CO Hitendra Krishna, and Kotwal Ghananand Tripathi arrived at 11:30 am and attached and sealed the 18 shops owned by Ansari’s cousin.
