Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Mohan Yadav on Friday claimed that Ujjain still had a device that could be used to determine the time, and that India was the country that established the global standard time approximately 300 years ago.

Yadav further ascertained that his Madhya Pradesh government would try to move the Prime Meridian, the line of longitude that serves as the world's time reference from Greenwich, England, to Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

The statement from the chief minister came in response to the governor in the state assembly.

Telling westernisation, the analytical way, the CM said, "India's standard time was known in the world some 300 years ago.

However, Paris started to set the time and later, it was adopted by the British, who considered Greenwich the Prime Meridian."

While speaking in the house, Yadav also questioned the start of a new day at 12 am. He said, "No one begins their day at midnight. People either wake up with sunrise or some time later."

"Our government is working to prove that Ujjain is the global Prime Meridian and we will push to correct the time of the world," Yadav said.

What does Ancient Hindu astronomy say?

Ancient texts like Surya Siddhanta placed Ujjain at the intersection of the Prime Meridian and the Tropic of Cancer, making it the central point for timekeeping in India.

Since 1884, the international standard for the Prime Meridian has been the one passing through Greenwich in England.

Shifting Prime Meridian

Despite the fact that the Chief Minister declared his intention to ‘prove’ that Ujjain is the true Prime Meridian and ‘correct the time of the world.’ He didn't elaborate on how he plans to achieve this.

However, shifting the Prime Meridian would require a global agreement, which seems unlikely given the widespread adoption of the Greenwich Meridian.
