The replacement of Jawaharlal Nehru's photo with BR Ambedkar's in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly has triggered controversy and a strong reaction from the Congress party.

On the first day of the 16th Madhya Pradesh assembly session, the portrait of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru behind the Speaker's chair was replaced with that of Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. The portrait of Mahatma Gandhi remains on the other side of the Speaker's chair.

The Congress party raised strong objections to the change, calling it "an insult to India's first Prime Minister."

They demanded that Nehru's photo be restored to its original place, arguing that both Nehru and Ambedkar played crucial roles in India's history and deserve respect. Congress MLAs threatened to restore the picture themselves if the government doesn't take action.

Though, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government hasn't officially commented on the reason for the change or the opposition's reaction. However, some BJP leaders have defended the move, stating that Ambedkar's contribution to India deserves equal recognition.
