The poster campaign launched by Congress against Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has drawn the ire of PhonePe, the country’s largest digital payment company. PhonePe warned Congress of legal action over the posters that were put up all over the state, which featured the company’s logo.

The posters in the centre of the controversy were part of a poster campaign launched by the Congress against the Chief Minister in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. The MP Assembly Elections are slated to be held in or before November 2023.

The posters had the text “50% laao, PhonePe kaam karao” (Bring 50% commission, get your work done on phone), along with PhonePe’s logo and a QR code featuring Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s face. The posters were plastered all over Bhopal and other areas by Congress workers, triggering a slew of FIRs and a war of words between the BJP and Congress.

The Congress has consistently accused the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government of taking a commission in exchange for doing work.

Remove posters or we will sue: PhonePe to Congress

PhonePe objected to the use of its logo on the posters, which they claimed was unauthorized.

The payments company asked Congress to remove the posters, failing which they will take necessary legal actions for copyright infringement.

The use of PhonePe’s brand name and logo is an attempt by Congress to associate the government’s work with corruption and bribery.
