Two labourers died while four are critically injured on Saturday due to lightning strikes in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, police officials said.

The incident happened in the Kachhar village, which falls under the Bakswaha police station area, in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district.

The four injured labourers have been taken to the Damoh District Hospital in a severely injured state, the Bakswaha station in-charge told news outlet ANI.

The Bakswaha station in-charge said, “Between the Karri and the Kachhar village in Chhatarpur, the installation work of wire fencing at the plantation of the forest department was going on. The labourers working for it hid under the nearby trees to shield themselves from the rains.

“Meanwhile, lightning strikes occurred, and two of them died on the spot while four others got severely injured. They were admitted to Damoh District Hospital.”
