On one of the most frustrating days for the people of Bengaluru, thousands of people took more than five hours to cover the distance of 20 kms. Perhaps, Bengaluru is the second most congested place in the World.

According to posts that got flooded on Twitter, one of the user wrote “Kids from school reached home at around 9 PM, and they deserve better.”

While some of the users taking it to Twitter, advised people not to leave the office before 9 PM, while being stuck in a traffic jam.

What exactly caused the traffic jam?

Some of the reports say that police have stated some of the reasons for the unusual traffic flow. One of them included the long weekend, which prompted the people to move out of the city. A spell of rain, waterlogging, and potholes added to the same.

Following a bandh on Tuesday, the roads were full with vehicles for going to the office, but the situation had gone out of hand by that time.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M N Anucheth, the conservative estimate of vehicles crossed 6 lakhs at Outer Ring Road and the surrounding roads which were double as compared to other days.

By 5 PM, the ORR stretch from Marathahalli to Silk Board Junction was literally chock-a-block. Its effects soon spilt over to other arterial roads, including Sarjapur Road, Old Madras Road, Ballari Road, Tumakuru Road, and Mysuru Road, as per officials.

People were also taking part in the Ganesh Visarjan which contributed to the vehicles on the road.
