The KGMU takes the initiative in making respiratory diagnosis easier for children and elderly adults. The benefits, how-to methods and other related information were discussed in the Respricrit 2023 in Lucknow by Dr Rajesh Swarnakar from Nagpur. Here he introduces and explains the uses of the Oscillometer.
In the event, the doctor starts by comparing the work of the spirometer with the newfound Oscillometer. He said that, till the invention of the oscilloscope, the spirometer was the device used for diagnosing respiratory diseases.
This spirometer involves the patient blowing hard on it to diagnose the severity of the condition, for example, conditions such as Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). But the downside is that the elders and children could not blow hard on command. This makes the disease diagnosis difficult and inaccurate at times.
The new invention, The Oscillometer, for respiratory diagnosis works on the concept of air impedance on the breadth of sound.
In the Respricrit 2023, the secretary, Dr SN Gupta, stated that the new method for respiratory diagnosis is already in practice by the KGMU. And that it is said to be spreading across other private hospitals too. Due to the high accuracy of this air oscillometer, doctors are expected to stop PFT usage too.
The experts in the event Respricrit 2023 explained that symptoms like difficulty breathing, heavy chest, and other similar problems might be due to the water accumulation in the area. Due to this water gathered in the place, it would be challenging to diagnose other underlying diseases.
But using this new invention, Air Oscillometer, the diagnosis has become more accurate, more accessible, and safer. Treatments and medications are also made more accessible and relatable with a precise diagnosis.
In the recent Respricrit 2023 conducted in Lucknow, the experts discussed and explained the uses and benefits of the new diagnosing equipment for respiratory diseases, the Air Oscillometer. Further, the experts also confirmed the spread of the usage of this device from KGMU to other private hospitals.
