An eight-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped, subjected to sexual abuse, and then abandoned in a rice field in the Aluva region of central Kerala on Thursday. The culprit tried to swim away from the police by jumping into the nearby river, but he was apprehended with the assistance of locals and dragged out of the water. News networks broadcast images of the suspect being apprehended by police with the assistance of locals and being removed from the scene.The locals turn witnessThe locals told the media that since the event, the police have been searching the neighborhood in plain clothes for the offender.“He was drinking under the bridge and, on seeing the police, jumped into the water to escape. But police and other people stopped him from escaping and pulled him out of the water,” one of the local people said.The Authority statesPolice reported that the eight-year-old girl who was sexually abused by the suspect was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kalamassery and that she is in stable condition. For injuries sustained in the violent encounter, the girl needed surgery, according to the police. While the girl was resting, the suspect allegedly kidnapped her in front of her Aluva home.
