Gopinatham Forest Safari: Embark on a thrilling journey as Gopinatham, once infamous as 'Veerappan territory,' has opened its mystical forest terrains to the public. Nearly two decades after the demise of the notorious forest brigand Veerappan, the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary introduced a captivating jungle safari at Gopinatham, Karnataka.

This initiative invites travellers visiting the Male Mahadeshwara Temple or the Hogenakkal Falls to experience the untamed beauty of the region.

Safari Timings and Accessibility

From 6 AM to 9.30 AM and 4 PM to 6.30 PM, adventure enthusiasts can traverse the lush landscapes of Gopinatham. Strategically catering to those exploring the Male Mahadeshwara Temple or chasing waterfalls at Hogenakkal, the safari aims to replicate the tourism success of Bandipur and BR Hills.

Honouring Sacrifice: The Legacy of P Srinivas

The forest office at Gopinatham stands as a testament to the sacrifice made by IFS officer P Srinivas, beheaded by Veerappan in 1991. Inaugurated recently after an experimental launch in August, the safari has received a boost with the Karnataka government allocating Rs 5 crore to promote eco-tourism in the Gopinatham region.

The Gateway to Adventure: Fees and Wildlife Encounters

Tourists from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and across the nation now flock to Gopinatham for the jungle safari experience. Priced at Rs 500 per person and Rs 300 for children under six, the safari unveils the sanctuary's rich biodiversity, home to leopards, elephants, sambar deer, bears, and more. Once considered off-limits due to Veerappan's reign, Gopinatham is now a vibrant hub for eager explorers.

A Boost for the Locals

Beyond its ecological significance, the safari brings hope to Gopinatham and neighbouring villages. The anticipation is that increased tourism will revitalise the local economy, creating opportunities for growth and prosperity.

In the heart of what was once Veerappan's stronghold, Gopinatham emerges as a symbol of transformation, inviting all to witness the untamed beauty that lies within its dense forests. Experience the allure of nature, redefined in the legacy of Veerappan's territory.
