Karnataka: In a shocking incident, a group of six to seven men verbally abused and thrashed an interfaith couple, who were staying at a hotel in the Haveri district of Karnataka, said the police.
This incident occurred took place on January 7. The incident came to light after the victims narrated their ordeal to the police. Following this, a case has been lodged against the accused.
Among the accused, the police have apprehended two of them so far and trying to hunt down the rest as soon as possible.
Reportedly, a group of miscreants barged into the hotel, opened the door of the couple’s room and assaulted them after receiving the information about the interfaith couple booking a hotel room.
The gang verbally abused the duo and then filmed the woman while abusing her.
Briefing about the incident, Haveri Superintendent of Police (SP) Anshu Kumar said, “Two arrests have been made and we are further identifying the accused. We will arrest three to four more people soon.”
He said that the miscreants were locals and were not affiliated with any organisation.
“Initially it was an assault case and we arrested two people. However, based on the statement of the victims, we are looking to add sections such as kidnapping, outraging the modesty of a woman, assaulting a woman, and attempt to murder," the SP added.
