A government school teacher, Manjula Devi, in Sivamogga district of Karnataka, has been transferred after two Class 5 Muslim students alleged that she asked them to “go to Pakistan” during a heated argument. The education department has initiated an inquiry against her. Manjula Devi teaches Kannada and has been at the school for over nine years.The matter came to light after a complaint was filed with the education department by A. Nazrullah, the president of the district unit of the Janata Dal Seculars minority wing. The complaint had been corroborated by other students in the class. According to the complaint, the incident occurred when Manjula Devi, the teacher in question, was instructing a Class 5 class, and two students of the Muslim community got into an argument. Nagaraj conducted a probe against the teacher and confirmed that the action against the teacher was based on students complaints. The block education officer said, “The teacher said to the students: This is not your country, this is the country of Hindus. You should go to Pakistan. You are our slaves forever.” He added that he has filed a report into the incident and that any further course of action will be decided by top officials.The incident comes a week after the Uttar Pradesh Police filed a complaint against a private school teacher in Muzaffarnagar district, who allegedly made racial remarks and incited her students to hit their Muslim classmate for being unable to recite a multiplication table. The incident led to widespread condemnation, and a case was registered against the teacher under sections 323 and 555 of the Indian Penal Code.
