Update: As per the Election Commission, a voter turnout of 65.69% was recorded till 5PM on Wednesday across Karnataka.


Update: According to the Election Commission, a voter turnout of 52.18 percent was recorded till 3 pm on Wednesday in the ongoing Karnataka Assembly elections.

Karnataka Assembly polls 2023: 37.25 pc voting turned out till 1 pm

Update: Karnataka saw a voter turnout of roughly 37.25 percent in the elections up till 1 PM on Wednesday, to choose members of the 224-member State Legislative Assembly.

Election officials reported that during the first six hours of voting, which started at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm, the coastal district of Udupi saw the highest turnout with 47.79 percent and the lowest with 29.41 percent in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) central limits (parts of Bengaluru city).

As per sources, the State is primarily seeing a three-way struggle between the BJP, which is in power, the Congress, and the Janata Dal (Secular), which is led by former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.


Karnataka Assembly polls 2023: 8.26 pc voting turned out in first 2 hours

BJP, Congress, and the Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) are among the state’s big political parties, have all made an effort to win over voters by making promises and accusing one another to gain control of the state’s 224-seat Assembly.

The Vokkaliga and Lingayat voters will be a significant impact on the assembly elections in Karnataka. Vokkaligas make up 11 percent of the population, while Lingayats make up 17 percent.

According to the data, 8.26 percent of eligible voters turned out for the Wednesday elections for the Karnataka Legislative Assembly during the first two hours of voting. The 224-member assembly’s election voting began at 7 am and will last until 6 pm. The Udupi coastline district had the highest voting (13.28 percent), and the Chamarajanagar district had the lowest (5.75 percent) as of 9 am.

Nirmala Sitharaman, Yediyurappa and Narayana Murthy among early voters

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former chief minister B S Yediyurappa, IT industry veteran N R Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murty, and ‘Rajamate’ Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the Mysuru royal family were among the early voters in the Karnataka Assembly elections.

During the early voting period, which started at 7 am, Siddalinga Swamiji, seer of the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru, actor Ramesh Arvind, senior Congress politician G Parameshwara, and ministers R Ashoka, Araga Jnanendra, C N Ashwath Narayan, and K Sudhakar all exercised their right to vote.

Narayan Murthy, Sudha Murty and Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman voted at Jayanagar in Bengaluru.

Sudha Murty urged the people to come out and vote, she said: “I will not ask you who you will vote for or why you vote, because everyone has their own opinion and decision, but everyone should vote. We vote in every election.”

On people who “go out” without voting, she said, “I can only say those who don’t have patriotism, do such things. Get up early, first vote and then go anywhere you want.”

The voting for the Karnataka Assembly elections began at 7 am today, and the results will be declared on May 13.
