A Protection of Children from of Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Uttar Pradesh on Friday sentenced a juvenile to life imprisonment in connection with a double murder and gang-rape case. In addition to this, a fine of ₹46,000 has also been levied on him.

According to Special public prosecutor Brijesh Kumar Pandey, the special POCSO court of Additional District Judge Rahul Singh on Friday held the juvenile guilty on August 22, pronounced the life term under various sections in which he was held guilty.

The prosecutor stated that the juvenile has been fined of ₹15,000 in section 302/34 of the IPC, 5-year imprisonment and fine of ₹5,000 in section 452 and 5-year jail term with ₹5,000 fine in section 363 of IPC, 6-year imprisonment and fine of ₹5,000 in section 201 of IPC, 1-year imprisonment and ₹1,000 as fine in section 323 of IPC.

What was the case all about?

The heinous crime happened back in September 14, 2022, when two teenage girls in a village under Nighasan police station area in Uttar Pradesh were kidnapped from their house, brutally gang-raped and killed. After this, the accused hanged the dead bodies to a tree inside a sugarcane field.

Special prosecutor Pandey informed that a total of six accused among whom four were adults and two juveniles who were involved in the double murder and gang-rape of two minor girls.  

Out of six, the four adult accused were sentenced on August 14 when Zunaid and Sunil were awarded life imprisonment, while Karimuddin and Arif were sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment.

He further added one of the juveniles between the age of 16 to 18 was tried in the special POCSO court but was given life term on Friday, while the case for the sixth juvenile accused is still going on at the juvenile justice board.
