In among India's one of the biggest cash recoveries, the income tax department has recovered over Rs 290 crores in the raid at the Congress MP, Dheeraj Sahu in Jharkhand since yesterday.

According to the officials, the amount is expected to rise as the counting of more cash is yet to be done. Apart from this, the officials have got information about more locations where the cash has been hidden. The tax department raided the offices of an Odisha-based distillery in Jharkhand and West Bengal.

As per sources in the tax department, nine lockers and up to seven rooms spread throughout the three locations have not yet been inspected. The money was discovered crammed into various furniture pieces and cabinets. They claimed to have knowledge of additional locations where more money and jewellery might be discovered.

Number of notes were so high that the machines stopped working

Income Tax (I-T) Department on Thursday informed that since the number of notes is so high the machines stopped working and the counting was on.

Meanwhile, PM Modi took to 'X' and fired fresh salvos at the Congress party stating that whatever they have "looted" from the public, they will have to return every penny of it.

"The countrymen should look at the pile of these notes and then listen to the honest 'speeches' of their leaders... Whatever has been looted from the public, every penny will have to be returned, this is Modi's guarantee", he said in a post on 'X'.
