In a tragic accident, five people were killed, and another 5 were injured after an SUV carrying them hit a roadside tree in Jharkhand's Giridih district on Saturday. The victims of this unfortunate incident also included two children who are said to be seriously injured, said police. 

According to media reports the crash took place in Baghmara in the Mufassil police station are around 3 am on Saturday. 10 passengers inside the vehicle were returning from a wedding ceremony. 

The commuters had come from Thoria village in the Birni police station area to attend the function at Tikodih which is around 40 km away and were returning home when the accident happened, as per the statements of Giridih Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Anil Singh. 

"Five people died on the spot and the remaining five were admitted to a hospital. The driver might have dozed off," he added.
