A strange incident has been reported from Dhanbad in Jharkhand where a school student died by suicide reportedly after being beaten up for wearing a ‘bindi’ on her forehead at a school, as per officials.

Here’s what NCPCR chairperson says

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo, taking it to Twitter, said, “In Jharkhand’s Dhanbad, a girl student has been reported to have committed suicide after being thrashed for going to school wearing a bindi. The cognizance of the matter is being taken, and the team of @NCPCR_ will go to Dhanbad for investigation.”

Replying to the tweet, Uttam Mukherjee, Chairperson, CWC, Dhanbad, said, “Yes sir. It is a serious matter. The school is also not affiliated with the CBSE board. I have told the District Education Officer. I met the victim’s family today. The accused has been arrested.”

Notably, the incident has been reported from Dhanbad’s Tetulmari area on Monday after which the parents of the deceased and localities protested against the school management on Tuesday, asking the police for prompt action. The girl was reportedly preparing for IIT-JEE.

Before this, an incident was reported from Rajasthan’s Kota also where a student preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) allegedly died by suicide.
