Jammu and Kashmir: 2 Officers among 5 Soldiers Killed in encounter

Two Pakistani terrorists have also been killed during the gunbattle.

Two Army officers and three soldiers have been killed in the ongoing encounter between Indian security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Bajimaal area of Dharmsal in Rajouri district. The encounter broke out on Wednesday morning. 

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in a social media post, revealed the names who died in the encounter. In his tribute, he also posted their photos with the captions, "Capt MV Pranjal, Capt Shubham Gupta, Havldar Abdul Majid - 3 young men who served and sacrificed to defend us from terrorists.

Two Pakistani terrorists killed

Two Pakistani terrorists have also been killed during the gunbattle. One of the killed terrorists has been identified as Qari, a Pakistani national who held a high rank in the Lashkar-e-Taiba.

As per the reports from news agency PTI, The 29 years old, Captain Pranjal was from the 63 Rashtriya Rifles. Captain Pranjal hailed from Mysuru and is the son of a retired director of the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL).

Speaking to PTI, the family members of Captain Pranjal said that his body is expected to arrive in Bengaluru on Thursday evening. His last rites will be performed at Bannerghatta near Anekal.

H D Kumaraswamy pays tributes

Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy expressed condolences on the loss and posted on X(formerly Twitter), "Heartfelt tributes to Captain MV Pranjal, a proud Kannadiga, who lost his life during the military operation against terrorists in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir." 

The news agency PTI reported, Captain Shubham Gupta, who hailed from Agra district and joined the Indian Army in 2015 and was commissioned in 2018.

On Wednesday, Four Army personnel were killed in the combat, which is taking place in the Kalakot forests of Rajouri, while others died on Thursday.
