The Sonamarg-Zojila route was temporarily closed due to new snowfall in the high-altitude regions of Zojila Pass in Ganderbal district, Central Kashmir, leaving travellers delayed for approximately an hour on Tuesday morning.
According to the Kargil Police, the recent snowfall and slick road conditions at Zojila Pass caused traffic on this important road to be stopped in both directions for almost an hour.
According to officials, the recent snowfall in the upper reaches of Zojila in the Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir necessitated the closure of the Sonamarg-Zojila highway.
“Due to fresh snowfall & slippery road conditions at Zojilla Pass of NH-1D traffic has been stopped at Minamarg & Sonamarg till weather improves,” Kargil Police said in a post on X earlier in the day.
