Update (July 11): Following the suspension from last three days, the Amarnath Yatra resumed on Tuesday afternoon after repair work of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at Ramban section took place.

According to the sources, a fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to move towards Amarnath cave shrine as the highway was opened. Notably, the batch of Amarnath pilgrims generally leaves from Jammu between 3.45 am and 4.30 am every day.

The officials also confirmed that pilgrims those were stranded at Qazigund now allowed to move towards Jammu.

J-K: Amarnath Yatra remains suspended for 4th consecutive day

Due to the substantial damage to the Ramban section, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed on Tuesday, suspending the Amarnath Yatra for a fourth day in a row and trapping 15,000 pilgrims in Jammu and other locations.

The highway had to be closed to traffic on Monday because of damage caused by unrelenting rain, particularly on the segment that runs through the Ramban district, according to the authorities.

“The yatra has not yet resumed from Jammu. It is still suspended due to the closure of the highway. No fresh batch was allowed to move towards Kashmir from the Jammu base camp on Tuesday,” a senior officer told PTI.

According to the sources, over 5,000 pilgrims are stranded at the Chanderkot base camp in the Ramban district, and over 7,000 are stuck in Jammu, mainly at the Bhagwatinagar base camp.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the administration’s combined efforts throughout the day led to a significant improvement in the state of the roads. However, it will likely take some more time to finish the restoration.

Meanwhile, the Ramban district administration has started arranging buses for the stranded Amarnath pilgrims to facilitate their safe return to their respective places.
