Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the e-bus service in Srinagar on Wednesday. He launched a fleet of 100 battery-operated buses which comes under the Smart City initiative. These buses are environment-friendly as they will be operated on battery. It will run on 15 designated routes.Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said, I am very thankful to everyone associated with this project and also thankful to TATA Motors. I hope people of Srinagar will be benefited from this service.Speaking to ANI, Srinagar Smart City Limited CEO Athar Aamir Khan said that e-buses aim to control the unavailability of public transport service. He also added that the buses have been procured under the Smart City initiative. He mentioned that a total of 100 e-buses have been purchased for Srinagar, adding that there are two types of electric buses which include 75 nine-meter buses and 25 tweleve-meter buses. These e-buses will ensure zero emission and the driver will have complete access to the vehicles like doors and other things. 12 years plan These electric buses are very similar to buses, which are being operated in London. The idea is that the buses will run for the next 12 years. A 12-year contract with Tata has been signed for 12 years for the route planning.The buses are equipped with a temperature control facility to maintain a comfortable temperature. Moreover, there are five cameras placed throughout the bus to ensure passengers facility. The buses have a button that is connected to a command-and-control center for immediate assistance in case of emergencies.
